It seems that Swedish bands dominate many of the live shows I attend in Finland, and Opeth's performance at TUSKA was another testament to their enduring appeal across borders. As a photographer, the opportunity to capture bands in action from the photo pit, situated between the stage and the audience, usually feels like a race against time. However, with Opeth, known for their expansive compositions and frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt's penchant for between-song banter, there was ample opportunity to capture both the music and the moments.

Opeth's set was characterised by their signature blend of death metal and progressive rock, a style they've honed since their formation in Stockholm in 1990. Mikael Åkerfeldt's vocal prowess ranged from guttural growls to hauntingly clear melodies, weaving through intricate guitar passages and atmospheric transitions.
